    Happy Moving!

Avoid unnecessary hassle with these handy tips from Rodex Movers. By Sara Lyle Bow

    1. Write it Down

If you’ve been calling around for quotes from various movers, when one returns your call, you may have forgotten who it is! To keep track, jot down a list of companies you contact and the dates.

Likewise, create a list of questions you want to ask before you talk to someone. “Many times, during a survey, people struggle to recall what they need to ask,” says Roger Kweh, managing director of Rodex Movers (see more from Roger, below). Things to ask about: transportation, packing and unloading charges; transit insurance and applicable taxes.

    1. Invite them Over First

Rather than providing a cost estimate sight unseen, most professional movers will want to come to your place to assess the items to be moved prior to offering an estimate. It protects you, too – so that you can avoid incremental charges being added to the bill later. “Get a thorough walk-through with the moving surveyor,” recommends Roger. “Show him everything you need to move including contents in the closets, cabinets, under the beds, etc.”

    1. Note High Value Items

During your walk-through, make sure to inform the surveyor if you have any high-value or sentimental items like antiques or artworks to be extra careful of. You may also want to take out comprehensive insurance coverage, in case anything is damaged.  “Our damage claim rate is pretty impressive, under 2 percent,” says Roger. “We believe in accountability, and every one of our clients has a number to call and a person to talk to in the event that something goes wrong.”

    1. Mind the Route

This may seem obvious, but you need to tell your movers the exact destination. Not only will this help the mover get your belongings to your new home safely, it will also give you a better idea of the total cost. That said, at Rodex, quotes are volume based instead of trip-based, which “means our team never makes unnecessary trips to earn any added incentive,” explains Roger.

    1. Remember, Packing Matters

If you’re on a tight budget or simply prefer to pack precious items yourself, don’t skimp on boxes and tape, as overloading containers can risk damaging your valuables.

At Rodex, the most popular moving package is the Full Packing option. “We pack everything for you – crockery, clothes, toys, books, shoes – yes, everything!” says Roger, who adds, “And at a very affordable price.”

However, there are some things that even movers like Rodex won’t handle, including massive potted plants (e.g., trees) and life-sized stone statues. “These need to be hoisted using cranes,” Roger says.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#d6d6d6″][vc_column_text]

    Rodex Movers’ Roger Kweh shares…

His Fave Part of His Home

“I love my storage room the most. I stock a variety of drinks, such as craft beers, whiskies and sake.”

    Why He Loves His ’Hood

“I live in the Hougang area. It’s a great location, with easy access to major highways and lots of delicious local eateries nearby. Also, it’s very dog-friendly. I have a Golden Retriever and we go to the parks nearby for long walks.”

    His Best Advice for Newbies

“Visit the wet markets and try the hawker food. Bring your family out to the beaches and parks. Make some local friends and, of course, be nice to your neighbours.”
